Mayor Sarno Congratulates Le Greque Restaurant on 40 Years in Business

– Welcomes Them Back to Tower Square for Grand Reopening –

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno declared today, March 25, 2022 “Le Greque Day” in the City of Springfield in honor of the beloved Greek restaurant’s 40th year in business, and to mark the their grand reopening following a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. Mayor Sarno’s Director of Constituent Services Molly Shea visited Tower Square today to present Le Greque owners Kyriakos and Diana Varypatakis with the proclamation.

Le Greque restaurant opened its doors here at Tower Square in Springfield on March 25, 1982. Today, they reopened for the first time since the start of COVID-19. Founded by husband and wife team Kyriakos ‘Kyri’ and Diana Varypatakis, Le Greque has been a longtime fixture in Springfield’s downtown dining landscape. The Varypatakis’ are thrilled to be back downtown welcoming workers and visitors, and dishing up their delicious gyros and other Greek specialties once again.

Mayor Sarno stated, “What a great day to celebrate and welcome back old friends and welcome new ones, too to our downtown and Tower Square where the Varypatakis’ first opened forty years ago today. Forty years in business and they still have some of the same longtime customers coming back time after time. Congratulations, continued success, and Happy Greek Independence Day!”
