|   City News

The Springfield Board of Police Commissioners were sworn in today by City Clerk Gladys Oyola. On March 1, 2022, Mayor Domenic J. Sarno appointed five city residents to the Board. Those appointed were Dr. Gary Berte, Professor of Criminal Justice at Springfield College; Madeline Fernandez, Director of the re-entry program for the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department; Robert C. Jackson, business owner and community advocate; Norman Roldan, former School Committee member and community activist; and Albert Tranghese, retired Human Resources manager and former Labor Union representative. Also in attendance for the swearing in were City Solicitor Judge John Payne and Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood.

Mayor Sarno stated, “Again, I want to thank the residents who have agreed to serve as members of the Police Commission.  They are all very well respected, dedicated and accomplished citizens of our city.  Some of them have served as members of the Civilian Community Police Hearing Board and have volunteered countless number of hours as members of that board.  Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood and City Solicitor Judge John Payne are excited to work with the members of our Police Commission and provide them with the resources needed to review and conduct all disciplinary matters for our Springfield Police Department.”
