Mayor Sarno welcomes the Springfield Tartan Committee

|   City News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Chief of Staff Tom Ashe, in continuing to kick off the Springfield’s St. Patrick’s Parade Committee’s events leading up to St. Patrick’s Day, welcomed the Springfield Tartan Committee today. The Committee is comprised of Kerri Sullivan, Maureen Olds and Siobhan Cullen. The Springfield Tartan is a tribute to the residents of Springfield. The colors in the tartan were inspired by the colors of all the schools, past and present, which have stood in our city.

The tartan is officially registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans, the official registrar of tartans internationally, and it can only be recreated with Springfield’s permission.  Mayor Sarno is looking forward to wearing his tartan on St. Patrick’s Day to honor the pride and joy of the City of Springfield.

Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank the Springfield St. Patrick’s Parade Committee, especially the Tartan Committee of Kerri Sullivan, Maureen Olds and Siobhan Cullen for their continued efforts not only leading up to St. Patrick’s Day but for everything they do for our community.  I will proudly wear this tartan during our City of Springfield’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration as we raise the Irish flag on the front steps of City Hall this Thursday, March 17th.  As an old Irish blessing says, ‘May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.’”
