Mayor Sarno and City Officials Wish City Solicitor Ed Pikula a Happy Retirement

|   City News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and city officials joined with City Solicitor Edward M. Pikula to wish him a happy and well-deserved retirement. Attorney Pikula is retiring as the longest serving City Solicitor in the City of Springfield’s history.

Pikula is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Western New England University School of Law.  He has served as the President of the Massachusetts Municipal Lawyers Association, co-chaired the Massachusetts Bar Association Public Law Section Council, served on the Executive Board of the Hampden County Bar Association and is a member of the American Bar Association.  Pikula started with the city in 1981 serving as Assistant City Solicitor.  In 2001, he was appointed Chief of the Law Department’s Trail Division and in 2006, Mayor Charlie Ryan appointed him as City Solicitor, a position he continued to serve with distinction under Mayor Sarno.

Mayor Sarno stated, “This is bittersweet.  Solicitor Pikula, Ed, has been a dedicated leader of our Law Department for over 40 years!  Always a gifted orator, he has served as my ‘consigliere’ and will be dearly missed.  His steadfast commitment and dedication to public service is second-to-none and he is a well-respected member of the legal community and a strong zealous advocate for our City of Springfield.  Congratulations Ed, wishing you and your lovely wife Joanne and family continued good health on a very happy and well-deserved retirement.”
