Mayor Sarno, HHS Commissioner Caulton-Harris and Elder Affairs Director Federico Joined with City and State Officials to Welcome Seniors to North End Senior Center at Brightwood

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Health and Human Services (HHS) Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris and Elder Affairs Director Sandy Federico joined with City Councilor Maria Perez, State Senator Adam Gomez, State Representative Carlos Gonzalez, New North Citizens Council Chief Operations Office Jose Claudio and Mayoral Aide Mini Marrero in welcoming back our seniors to the reopening of the North End Senior Center at Brightwood on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

Mayor Sarno states, “I want to applaud Health and Human Services Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris and Elder Affairs Director Sandy Federico for their efforts in reopening our North End Senior Center at Brightwood.  After Councilor Maria Perez and my Mayoral Aide Mini Marrero brought to my attention how much our seniors are missing their center in our North End neighborhood; I immediately inquired with both HHS Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris and Director Sandy Federico as to how soon they could begin and start preparing for the reopening of our North End Senior Center, once our COVID-19 cases started to significantly decline – in order to combat their at times isolation aspects due to the pandemic with socialization and camaraderie again.  Special thanks to Executive Director of Parks, Buildings and Recreation Management Patrick Sullivan and his team for their work on the senior center building and abutting Kenefick Park.”

“I also want to acknowledge and thank our state delegation, specifically State Senator Adam Gomez and State Representative Carlos Gonzalez for their continued efforts advocating for our Springfield with the state,” Mayor Sarno added.  “My administration is committed to enhancing our neighborhoods.  In the North End we not only built a brand new state-of-the-art school with the Brightwood-Lincoln Elementary School but also a pedestrian underpass for residents to safely cross connecting the two sections of the North End and Brightwood neighborhoods (Birnie Ave and Plainfield Street), made enhancements to our Kenefick and Calhoun Park and continued housing and economic development initiatives too.”
