Under the Sea Week Coming to Springfield Museums

Under the Sea Week at the Springfield Museums begins December 27 @ 10:00 am–5:00 pm

Explore our incredible One Big Ocean through activities inspired by our special exhibits and permanent collections. Free with museum admission!

Jim Henson’s Splash and Bubble: Dive In, Lend a Fin!, 10 am-5 pm
Join Splash, Bubbles, and the Reeftown Rangers to explore marine biology, ocean science, and different ocean ecosystems in this interactive exhibition based on the popular PBS KIDS series.

Gingerbread: Under the Sea, 10 am-5 pm
Dive into the enchanted waters and journey to the bottom of the ocean where fantastical creatures and colorful plants are interpreted as culinary creations!

Sea Life Xrays, 11 am-3 pm
What do the insides of your favorite fish look like? Match each xray to a corresponding photograph to learn about shells, fish, and even seaweed.

Other Activities

Rainbow Fish, 11 am-2 pm
Everyone loves the resourceful and generous Rainbow Fish! Stop in to snap a selfie with our underwater friend.

Santa on Vacation, 11 am-3 pm
Santa loves visitors when he is on vacation! Stop by to say hello and receive a free book. Santa’s tropical backdrop makes a great photo opp, too!

Make a Gyotaku Fish Print, 11 am-3 pm
Japanese fishermen made prints to keep track of the number and types of fish they caught during the day. We’ll use a rubber fish instead of a real one to make a beautiful print you can take home.

Whale Station, 11 am-3 pm
Examine real whale specimens—from vertebrae to baleen—at this hands-on station.
