Mayor Sarno, Commissioner Clapprood and Sheriff Cocchi Thank Big Y for Christmas Turkey Donation

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood joined with Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi and retired State Police Colonel Kerry Gilpin as Big Y President Charlie D’Amour and the Big Y team graciously donate over 100 turkeys for those families in need for Christmas.

Mayor Sarno states, “Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood and I want to thank and acknowledge Big Y President Charlie D’Amour for this very generous and heartfelt donation.  When we reached out to Big Y to see about purchasing 100 turkeys to give to families in need for the holiday season, Mr. D’Amour very graciously and generously responded that he would be more than happy to donate them for this good cause.  Big Y continues to be a tremendous corporate citizen to the City of Springfield and we are very fortunate for this profound donation.”

Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi stated “I can’t thank Big Y and the D’Amour family enough for their generosity in stepping up to help our neighbors in need this holiday season. It’s one thing to say you’re a local business invested in the community, and it’s another thing to show it. They are leading by example and making a difference where it matters most.”

“This holiday season along with retired Colonel Gilpin, Sheriff Cocchi and now Mayor Sarno we will continue this tradition of helping families in need.  This wouldn’t be possible without the support of Springfield’s own Big Y and their President Charlie D’Amour.  We can’t thank them enough and look forward to distributing these turkeys and some other surprises next week,’’ said Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood.

Colonel Gilpin said, “I am truly honored to team up with Mayor Sarno, Sheriff Cocchi and Commissioner Clapprood to give back to our community during this holiday season.  I want to also acknowledge Michael Pekarski at Pekarski Sausage in South Deerfield.  Their generosity of donating hams for the holiday is greatly appreciated.”

The turkeys will be given out to families in need on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at the Springfield Police Department Facility at 299 Page Boulevard at 2:15 pm.
