Mayor Sarno states, “Parks Director Patrick Sullivan and I had a good meeting with the team from the Harvard Climate Fund to discuss their support for green initiatives, especially with the Urban Forest Project. I want to thank our own ‘Johnny Appleseed’ David Bloniarz for reaching out and setting up this meeting and for his continued support and efforts in advocating for environmental education for our residents and students. My Administration has been on the forefront of ‘Going Green’ and is committed to our environmental initiatives through our Climate Action Plan. Thanks to the efforts from Patrick Sullivan, aka my ‘Wizard of Oz’, the job he and his staff do in making Springfield a ‘Green City’ by reducing our carbon footprint and enhancing our open spaces and planting new trees, greatly benefits our neighborhoods. Thanks to Director Sullivan’s leadership, Springfield has enhanced our lakes and ponds, rebuilt dam infrastructure, spearheaded over $80 million in park construction projects, invested over $500 million in school renovation projects, establishing a technical environmental team for both parks and buildings, introduced less toxic cleaning, maintenance, and curriculum products, along with launching an integrated pest management system in city buildings, just to name a few.”

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Executive Director of Parks, Buildings and Recreation Management (PBRM) Patrick Sullivan, as part of the Administrations continued efforts in advancing the City of Springfield’s Climate Action Plan, met with members of the Harvard Climate Fund to discuss their support of the Urban Forest Project and the City of Springfield’s initiatives to addressing climate change.
