Mayor Sarno and Governor Baker Joined with Spirit of Springfield to Kick-off Bright Nights

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management (PBRM) Director Patrick Sullivan joined with Spirit of Springfield President Judy Matt, President of Monarch Enterprises Paul Picknelly and Spirit of Springfield Board Members including Vice Chair Kathy Tobin in welcoming Governor Charlie Baker for the opening night of the Bright Nights season at Springfield’s Forest Park. This is the first time a Massachusetts governor has made an official visit to the holiday lighting event. Also in attendance were State Representatives Bud Williams and Jake Oliveira, City Councilor Jesse Lederman and a special appearance by Santa.

Mayor Sarno states, “It is always great to welcome our Governor Charlie Baker to Springfield.  Parks Director Patrick Sullivan and Spirit of Springfield Judy Matt, and their respective teams, do such a tremendous job every year with our nationally recognized Bright Nights.  Huge shout out to all of our sponsors and supports, especially to Paul Picknelly, whose father was instrumental in starting this wonderful event back in 1995.  Bright Nights in Forest Park is back and I would like to invite everyone to come see the beautiful lighting displays and visit Santa’s Magical Forest, just passed Seuss Land, where you can pick up a souvenir, gifts, and enjoy some refreshments and a ride on the winter carousel.”
