The Southbound side of the bridge will be closed from the off ramp to I-291 WB to the intersection with Tapley. This will be required to perform concrete bridge deck repairs on the left travel lane on the SB side of the St James Ave. Bridge over I-291.
The partial closure is necessary due to the previous closure and barrier in the right lane for pending Concrete deck repairs on Bridge Bridge S-24-017(14K), which carries St James Ave over CSX Mainline in Springfield. MassDOT has closed the two right travel lanes and placed steel plates over the full depth deck repair areas . Our Contractor, NEL Corporation, had been directed to install the temporary barrier and an impact attenuator on St James Ave to provide a TMP in preparation for required full depth repairs with conventional concrete. The District is experiencing delays due to CSX Railroad to progress these repairs.
