City of Springfield and North End Housing Initiative Announce Home Buyer Lottery Application

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Chief Development Officer Tim Sheehan, Deputy Housing Director Robert DeMusis, Director of Disaster Recovery Tina Quagliato-Sullivan, School Committeewoman Maria Perez, and Mayoral Aide Minerva ‘Mini’ Marrero joined with State Representatives Carlos Gonzalez and representatives from New North Citizens Council, North End Housing Initiative, Inc. and NAI Plotkin to announce the Home Buyer Lottery Application for two brand new homes built in the North End. 111 Jefferson Ave and 45 Bancroft Street are funded largely by HUD/City’s HOME Program (Home Investment Partnerships Program). Anthony Moore, District Director for State Senator Adam Gomez was also in attendance.

Mayor Sarno stated, “I want to thank Congressman Richard Neal for his continued support on behalf of the City of Springfield – once a mayor always a mayor.  Thanks to the partnership with the North End Housing Initiative and NAI Plotkin, we are able to help address the housing stock needs of our North End neighborhood.  This is a tremendous opportunity for eligible families to not only become proud homeowners but to also be able to have $100,000 in equity for their family.  CDO Tim Sheehan and I will continue to work with New North Citizens Council (NNCC) Executive Director Maria Ligus, NNCC Chief Operating Officer Jose Claudio and School Committeewoman and NNCC board member Maria Perez to address the growing housing demands of the neighborhood.”

In today's red-hot real estate market, this housing initiative presents an incredible opportunity for income-eligible families to purchase with a significant amount of equity from Day One. Because of this, the City of Springfield has decided to choose the ultimate purchasers through a lottery system. Potential applicants must have a household income <80% Area Median Income and be pre-approved for a mortgage to cover purchase price.

Applications are due to the City of Springfield’s Office of Housing by 4:30 pm on November 8, 2021.  This will give renters who weren't already in the market for a home enough time to become pre-approved by a mortgage lender. A link to the application is below:

In addition, plans are underway build four (4) more similar homes in the Maple High/Six Corners neighborhood, with construction likely to begin in early Spring.
