Mayor Sarno Joins Superintendent Warwick for First Day of School Visits

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined today with Springfield School Superintendent Daniel Warwick to visit students, teachers, and staff on their first day of the school year. He also joined for the unveiling of Sodexo’s new Homegrown Springfield logo which was designed by students from our very own Roger L. Putnam Vocational Technical Academy and features students from Springfield Public Schools.

Mayor Sarno was happy to see Principal George Johnson at Roger L. Putnam Vocational Technical Academy as well as Lincoln Elementary Principal Mark McCann and Brightwood Elementary Principal Jose Escribano at the brand new Brightwood-Lincoln school facility.

Mayor Sarno stated, “First of all, good health to each and every one of our Springfield Public Schools students and their families. To Superintendent Warwick and all of our teachers, staff, and school officials: congratulations on the start of a new school year and thank you for all your hard work to prepare for a successful year. There is so much to look forward to this year as we return to school and we are very excited to see you all back.”

The Mayor continued, “We are very grateful to Sodexo for all they have done and continue to do to help us get through this COVID-19 pandemic. Together, we have been able to serve over 8.7 million meals to our Springfield families during COVID-19 thanks to our great partnership with Sodexo and Homegrown Springfield.

Also, a big thank you to Principal McCann for my new Lincoln Dragons swag – I look forward to wearing my new polo shirt soon.”
