Mayor Sarno and Mayor Murphy Throw Out Ceremonial First Pitch at Valley Blue Sox Game

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined with Mayor Terry Murphy of Holyoke to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Valley Blue Sox game at MacKenzie Stadium as they took on the Ocean State Waves.

Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank Mayor Murphy for hosting me and was honored that our Valley Blue Sox invited me to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.  Having ‘worn the tools of ignorance’ as a former catcher in high school, legion and college ball, I was hoping that I still had a little left in my arm to reach home plate!  Unfortunately, throwing a baseball is not ‘like riding a bike’ – my pitch came up short and was ‘down and away’!  Mayor Murphy on the other hand threw an impressive strike right down the plate – if the Valley Blue Sox ever need a relief pitcher he might be their guy!  It was a great experience to be back again and I enjoyed the time watching the game and interacting with the fans in attendance as we cheered on our Valley Blue Sox to win – which they did!  I wish the Blue Sox continued success, good luck in the playoffs and just as important good weather too!  Again, great baseball and family fun too.”

The Valley Blue Sox are a collegiate summer baseball team from Holyoke, Massachusetts.  In 2017, the Blue Sox won their first New England Collegiate Baseball League championship against the Ocean State Waves and repeated as champions in 2018 defeating the Ocean State Waves once again.  For more information on the Valley Blue Sox visit their website at www.valleybluesox.com
