Mayor Sarno and Councilor Brown to Work with DPW on Increasing Pedestrian Safety on Wilbraham Road

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno has directed DPW Director Chris Cignoli to work with American International College (AIC) and to review what safety measures can be implemented to increase pedestrian safety on Wilbraham Road for residents and students and employees of the campus.

Mayor Sarno and Ward 4 City Councilor Malo Brown will support DPW’s efforts in reviewing potential public safety measures that could be implemented with an emphasis on keeping pedestrian travel safe.

Mayor Sarno states, “My heartfelt sympathy and condolences go out to the family and friends of Lani Kretschmar and to President Maniaci and the AIC campus.  What happened on Wilbraham Road was a tragedy.  My administration is committed to working with Ward 4 City Councilor Malo Brown, DPW Director Chris Cignoli and President Vincent Maniaci and his AIC team to make sure it doesn’t happen again.  Both pedestrians and vehicles need to pay attention and we will do what we can to make sure pedestrian safety measures are in place for our Mason Square neighborhood residents and students and staff of AIC.  Councilor Brown and I look forward to announcing the formal public safety project ASAP.”

Ward 4 Councilor Brown stated, “I am committed to working with Mayor Sarno, our DPW, and with AIC to find appropriate public safety measures that we can implement to slow down the pace of traffic on Wilbraham Road for our Mason Square neighborhood residents and students and faculty of AIC.  We will explore any and all means to assure that our pedestrians can walk safely and traffic will slow down.”
