Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined with Bishop William Byrne in congratulating Father Piotr S. Calik on becoming a United States Citizen. Father Calik serves as Vicar General for the Catholic Diocese of Springfield. Born in Poland, he was ordained a Priest in 2013 and sworn in as a U.S. Citizen on June 23, 2021 in Boston, Massachusetts. Mayor Sarno congratulated Fr. Calik and presented him with a mayoral proclamation declaring Wednesday, July 14, 2021 as “Father Piotr S. Calik Day” in the City of Springfield.

Mayor Sarno states, “Congratulations to Father Piotr Calik on becoming a US Citizen.  Father Calik is such a humble and pleasant man, it was nice to honor and recognize him on this occasion.  It was also good to see Bishop Byrne, who recently joined with the parishioners of my beloved Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for the Mt. Carmel Feast Day celebration.  The United States of America is such a beautiful and wonderful country of diverse people from every nation on Earth.  It is this diversity that makes us strong and the beacon of democracy in the world.  God Bless Father Calik, God Bless America and God Bless our City of Springfield.”
