Mayor Sarno Joined with Lucila Sanchez for Grand Opening of Azaleah’s Sewing Academy & Handmade Shop

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined today with small business owner Lucila “Lucy” Sanchez and her family to present a Mayoral Proclamation and celebrate the grand opening of her new business, Azaleah’s Sewing Academy & Handmade Shop. Azaleah’s Sewing Academy & Handmade Shop is located at 1728 Boston Road in Springfield. At Azaleah’s – named after Lucila’s granddaughter – Lucila offers a range of handmade products, hosts sewing events, and is teaching practical and essential sewing skills with the ultimate goal of enhancing the lives of our local community.

Mayor Sarno stated, “To have mastered a craft that you can do with your hands and to share it with others can truly uplift an entire community. My parents constantly stressed the importance of mastering a skill and my mother herself was a seamstress so this is very close to my heart. I commend Lucy for her tremendous hard work and guts to leave one career to start another business of her own.  I wish continued success to Lucy and the Sanchez family.”

Members of Lucila’s first class of sewing students were in attendance today to help Lucila and her family celebrate along with State Representative Carlos Gonzalez, State Senator Adam Gomez, Governor Baker’s Western Mass Regional Director Jose Delgado, City Councilor Gumersindo Gomez, and State Representative Orlando Ramos’ Chief of Staff Ayanna Crawford.
