The Vax Force was convened by Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and is chaired by Springfield Health and Human Services Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris. The Vax Force Committee is comprised of 17 members each offering expertise in the areas of health, science, research, education, faith, and diversity, equity and inclusion, is committed to providing credible COVID-19 resources to our citizens using science, data, and information to guide the decision making process and explain the vaccination process, in layman’s terms. The Committee helps to explain how the vaccine is effective and the best practices to use after being vaccinated. In addition, the Vax Force works to debunk the myths about the vaccine and clarify rumors and misinformation. The Vax Force also helped examine the distrust of vaccines within marginalized groups within the community.
Mayor Sarno stated, “What a great acknowledgement and recognition for our Springfield Vax Force. I want to thank and acknowledge our dedicated and compassionate Health and Human Services Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris and her team for all they have done and continue to do for our residents and business community during these challenging and surreal times as we continue to work together to defeat this COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. Thank you to all of our Vax Force Committee members who continue to serve and provide much-needed expertise and guidance as we continue to provide outreach and educational initiatives to get vaccine doses out to our neighborhoods, especially to our underserved and marginalized populations. A big shout out and thank you to Axiom Blue and Angela Mack, who I respectfully call ‘Hollywood’, for her vision, leadership, and talents in helping to get our vital public health information out to our community. She has been instrumental for our Vax Force.”
