City of Springfield Celebrates 385th Birthday

The 385th Anniversary commemorates the establishment of Springfield in 1636 by William Pynchon and company at the junction of the Agawam and Connecticut rivers.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno states, “Springfield is a beautiful and diverse community with a rich history and tradition of invention and innovation.  We are strong and resilient.  This has been true throughout our history, as we have endured numerous challenges over the years.  From the Revolutionary War to gain our independence as a nation and all the wars that followed, to the industrial revolution and the Great Depression, and all of the natural and manmade disasters that have afflicted our Springfield, and now the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.  Through it all, we are reminded that no matter what happens our beloved Springfield will recover and come back stronger with hard work, belief, compassion and unity.  We have to believe in ourselves as a community and as a city, which in turn will help others to believe in Springfield.  Happy Birthday Springfield and May God continue to bless all of our residents and our city!”

Happy Birthday, Springfield and special thanks to Springfield’s own La Fiorentina for helping us celebrate. Mayor Sarno added, “It’s not pancakes, but how can you resist a famous rum cake from La Fiorentina Pastry Shop. Thank you to Leo and Ana Daniele for the delicious cake.”
