Mayor Sarno and Congressman Neal Hold Press Conference on American Rescue Plan

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Chief Administrative and Financial Officer (CAFO) TJ Plante, and City cabinet heads joined with Congressman Richard E. Neal for a press conference on the American Rescue Plan.

The City of Springfield is set to receive $97.5 million from the American Rescue Plan.  The Springfield Public Schools will receive $189 million.  Springfield will receive over $1 million of funding through federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to expand access to COVID-19 vaccines and build vaccine confidence in hardest-hit and highest-risk communities.

Congressman Neal serves as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.  He has been instrumental in working on federal legislation in support of relief and recovery efforts during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

Mayor Sarno stated, “I want to thank Congressman Neal for his continued and dedicated efforts and leadership on behalf of the City of Springfield and our residents and business community.  As a former mayor, Congressman Neal knows exactly what assistance urban city’s need in order to provide relief during the ongoing COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic and what post-pandemic recovery initiatives are needed to jumpstart our local economy and boost economic development projects.  My administration is dedicated to working with Congressman Neal and our local, state and federal partners to utilize this federal funding to focus on targeting such areas as job creation/economic development, capital projects, assistance for businesses, non-profits, and seniors, our neighborhoods, and housing.”

“As we continue to climb our way out of this economic downturn and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, federal funding is crucial in assuring cities and towns bounce back,” said Congressman Neal. “The funding from the American Rescue Plan will ensure that Springfield has the monies it needs to continue to provide essential services and critical support systems to residents and businesses. I am confident in Mayor Sarno’s leadership and thank him and his department heads for their steadfast work throughout this trying time.”
