The Elias Brookings School was originally built in 1925 but closed due to severe damage from the tornado in June 2011. The former gymnasium will be used as a multi-purpose recourse center and community room.
Mayor Sarno states, “The development of the Elias Brookings Apartments continues my administration’s efforts of the tremendous overall positive transformation of our Central Street corridor area.”
State Representatives Carlos Gonzalez and Orlando Ramos, State Senators Adam Gomez and Eric Lesser, City Councilors Malo Brown, Melvin Edwards, Jesse Lederman, Kateri Walsh and Tracye Whitfield were also in attendance.
