Mayor Sarno Welcomes Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston Director-General Jonathan C.Y. Sun

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno welcomed Jonathan C.Y. Sun, Director-General of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Boston today. State Representative Angelo J. Puppolo, Jr. made the introductions to strengthen the bonds and relationships with the City of Springfield and our Taiwanese community here in Springfield and across the Commonwealth.

Director-General Sun was appointed to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston last year after previously serving as Deputy Director-General for the Taiwan Department of International Organizations.  The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston serves as the De facto Consulate General of Taiwan for the New England area.

Mayor Sarno stated, “I want to thank State Representative Angelo Puppolo for making the introduction with Director-General Sun.  The City of Springfield has enjoyed a very positive relationship with our friends at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston and we are looking forward to continuing to work with the new Director-General and his team to strengthen our bonds.  I remember fondly last year, during the onset of this COVID-19 pandemic, when our City of Springfield was desperate for much-needed PPE’s for our brave and dedicated first responders and front line workers, it was the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston and Representative Puppolo who came to our aid.  The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston very generously donated over 10,000 surgical masks.”

Chief of Staff Tom Ashe, TECO Consular Officer Johanna Wang, and Bruce Adams were also present in the meeting.
