Officer Borrero joined the Springfield Police Department in 1977, serving with the Squad C Uniform and later Squad A Uniform. In 1979, Officer Borrero went on to work with the Park Special Detail and in 1980 he served with Community Relations. In 1983, he served with the Squad B Detective Bureau Houseb until 2013 when he started working with the Squad A Detective Bureau. In 2014, he served with Squad A and later in the Photo Lab until his retirement.
Officer Borrero was joined by his family, friends, and co-workers, who love him dearly and wish him good health and a very happy and well-deserved retirement.
Mayor Sarno presented Officer Borrero with a proclamation declaring Friday, March 5, 2021 as "Officer Ruben Borrero Sr., Day" in the City of Springfield. Commissioner Clapprood presented Officer Borrero with a plaque to acknowledge and honor his retirement.
Mayor Sarno stated, “On behalf of the residents of our proud City, we thank you Officer Ruben Borrero and your family for your brave and dedicated service to our Springfield community. You were a trailblazer, SPD’s first Puerto Rican police officer and one of the City’s longest serving officer. For 44 years, you served our community with honor and distinction and you paved the way for so many to follow in your footsteps – including your son and nephew. God Bless you and your family on a well-deserved retirement. Mission accomplished!”
