Mayor Sarno and HHS Commissioner Caulton-Harris Join with AMR for Earn While You Learn Graduation

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Health and Human Services (HHS) Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris joined with Patrick Pickering, American Medical Response (AMR) Northeast Regional Director for AMR's Earn While You Learn graduation event at their Eastfield Mall COVID-19 testing site.

First launched in August 2019, the Earn While You Learn Program is designed to make an easier transition for those wanting to become EMS professionals.  Participants are hired as employees and compensated while attending AMR’s EMT-Basic certification course.  Upon successful completion of the program and obtaining their state certification, participants are promoted to EMT-B with a commensurate pay increase.

Mayor Sarno states, “I am very appreciative of AMR’s continued belief and investment in our Springfield.  This continues to be what my administration is all about – creating more new jobs for our residents and their families.  In addition, AMR’s unyielding support and partnership, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, has been second-to-none.  I want to congratulation all of the graduates, 10 of which are Springfield residents.  All of the graduates have a bright future ahead of them and I know their families are proud of all of their achievements."

Dr. John Santoro, Chairman of the EMS Commission brought greetings and thanked the graduates for their service.

Also in attendance from AMR was Patrick Leonardo, Emily Chandler, and Tatiana Adorno who spoke about her experience with the Earn While You Learn program.
