Mayor Domenic J. Sarno was pleased to meet with Bishop William D. “Bill” Byrne, who was installed as the tenth Bishop for the Diocese of Springfield last week.
Mayor Sarno welcomed Bishop Byrne, who took a walk down to City Hall from Saint Michael’s Cathedral, with a touch of both Italian and Irish – Italian specialty pastries from La Fiorentina Pastry Shop and Deidre Reilly’s new Irish Christmas CD for the Bishop and his mom too. Bishop Byrne also gave blessings to Mayor Sarno and his staff.
Mayor Sarno stated, “I can use and will accept all the blessings I can get! It was wonderful that he wanted to come down to City Hall. I am very grateful to the Bishop for his spiritual presence and for being so genuine and humble. We are all very blessed to have Bishop Bill Byrne here with us in our Springfield Diocese. He brings a unique style and great sense of humor with him from Washington and I am looking forward to many more prayers with him for all of our City.”
“P.S. Chief of Staff Tom Ashe and I did give him a ride back home, too!”
