City Clerk’s Office Temporarily Closed and DPW Yard Waste Collection Slowed by COVID-19 Coronavirus

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno after conferring with Health and Human Services (HHS) Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris announce that out of an abundance of caution, the City Clerk’s Office will temporarily close due to potential exposure. City Clerk Attorney Tasheena Davis has been made aware of the situation and will be working directly with HHS Commissioner Caulton-Harris to respond accordingly.

The City Clerk’s Office will potentially reopen Friday, December 11, 2020 or Monday, December 14, 2020, after employees are tested for COVID-19 and the office area is deep cleaned.  Those constituents who had a scheduled appointment with the Clerk’s Office will be contacted to either reschedule their appointment at a later date or to encourage them to conduct their city related business remotely, if possible.

Mayor Sarno states, “After conferring with Health and Human Services Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris and out of an abundance of caution, we will be temporarily closing the City Clerk’s Office to get our employees tested and to thoroughly deep clean that office area.  We deeply apologize for any inconvenience - we do not make these decisions lightly.  In order to continue to keep our overall City operations going and to keep a control and structured accessibility to City Hall for our constituents, we must maintain a balance of protecting and preserving the health and safety of our workforce. We will continue to take these precautionary public health and safety measures.”

In addition, Chris Cignoli, Director for the Department of Public Works (DPW), has informed the Mayor that the city’s yard waste collection continues to be slowed due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus, which has negatively affected his DPW Solid Waste crews with COVID-19 symptoms.  As always, first priority is the regular pick up of trash and recycling.

“I want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we continue to work and provide core and vital services for our residents during these surreal and challenging times of this pandemic,” said Mayor Sarno. “We will continue to try and collect everyone’s yard waste until the weather will no longer permit it.  For those who are able to, residents can deposit their yard waste material at the Bondi Island landfill at no charge, Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 3:15 pm and Saturdays from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm.”

The City of Springfield apologizes for any inconvenience as we continue to work together to mitigate the community spread of the virus during this pandemic.  Residents and businesses are encouraged to continue to conduct their city related business remotely when possible through the city’s 311 Call Center at (413) 736-3111 and at the city’s website at www.springfield-ma.gov
