Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined with Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Chris Cignoli and the DPW Solid Waste Crews today to honor a special needs student at Putnam Vocational High School.
The DPW honored the student, who is also going through his second bout with cancer, as an honorary Sanitation Worker – his dream job, and presented him with his own DPW vest and a plaque. Mayor Sarno also presented the student with a Mayoral citation.
Mayor Sarno stated, “It was a heartwarming moment today, to be able to join our DPW in honoring this young man, who is so deserving. Thank you to our DPW Solid Waste Crews for what they do everyday. And thank you to DPW Director Chris Cignoli for coordinating this small celebration and introducing me to our newest honorary member of the Springfield DPW – he especially enjoyed honking the horn on trash truck! I am also grateful to this young man’s family for being with us today, I wish him the best and welcome him to the DPW team.”
