American Medical Response (AMR) and Fallon EMS will continue with the Stop the Spread testing initiative into the New Year.
Mayor Sarno states, “Health and Human Services Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris and I are very thankful and appreciative to Governor Charlie Baker and Secretary of Health and Human Services Marylou Sudders that the ‘Stop the Spread’ testing initiative will be extended until December 31, 2020. I spoke with Governor Baker last week and the Governor’s commitment has been unwavering in all his and our efforts to defeat this COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. Here’s to a much better 2021 and good riddance to 2020!”
“I am grateful for those organizations who have stepped up to support the Stop the Spread initiative in Springfield. These limited testing sites are helpful although they are not sufficient to gauge the penetration of the virus in Springfield,” said HHS Commissioner Caulton-Harris. “What is needed is a national testing strategy and a supply chain that can meet the testing needs of the entire United States. All Americans should be able to get a COVID -19 test on demand. I cannot stress enough for all of our residents to follow and adhere to all of the public health guidelines. Though they may seem simple, it is imperative for everyone to follow these measures to help mitigate the community spread of this virus.”
“I also want to thank all of the medical institutions who have partnered with the City in support of the Stop the Spread initiative, especially AMR and Fallon EMS who will continue with their testing into 2021,” Mayor Sarno added. “This continuation of testing will help build true community and consumer confidence until there is adequate testing for all individuals and for when a vaccine is readily available. As long as everyone continues to follow all of the public health and safety guidelines including washing your hands, wearing your face coverings and staying home if you are not feeling well, we will get through this pandemic together as one.”
AMR will continue with their daily testing at the Eastfield Mall and Fallon EMS will announce their testing location and details at a later date.
Governor Charlie Baker launched the Stop the Spread initiative on July 10, 2020. The Commonwealth launched this strategic testing program to help stop and mitigate the community spread of the Coronavirus in communities across the state where there might be higher rates and potential for community spread. This program supports the testing of asymptomatic individuals in the community. Testing is provided at no cost to residents and has been in partnership with some of our local healthcare organizations.
