Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, in recognition of the 5th annual national Energy Efficiency Day on October 7, 2020, has proclaimed the entire month of October as "Energy Efficiency Month" in the City of Springfield. The City is joining over 700 regional and national organizations, businesses, utilities, universities, and individuals in promoting energy efficiency – the cheapest, quickest way to meet our energy needs, cut utility bills, and reduce pollution.
Mayor Sarno stated, “The work we continue to do to become more energy efficient is a benefit not only to our environment, but also to our bottom line. The City of Springfield remains committed to energy efficiency and, this month especially, we encourage our residents and business community to take advantage of these pollution cutting and cost saving measures.”
Springfield has already made significant, forward-thinking investments in energy savings for our municipal buildings. While Massachusetts is known nationally as a leader in energy efficiency, there are many in Springfield who have not yet taken advantage of programs we’ve already paid for by a small surcharge in each utility bill. This program offers a free energy assessment of where we live, in person or virtual, as is appropriate. After an evaluation, recommendations are made for ways you can tighten up your residence and make improvements that will make you more comfortable while saving you money. The program is available also for renters and landlords as well as small businesses, places of worship, and nonprofits.
There are also very generous financial incentives that will help you pay for this work. As well as LED lightbulbs, energy saving power strips, and more, all from Mass Save programs.
