Mayor Sarno joins with the Spirit of Springfield for the Golf Classic

In good fun and to support the Spirit of Springfield, golfers took to Franconia Golf Course on Friday, September 25, 2020, for the postponed Spirit of Springfield Golf Classic. Before the 10:00 am shotgun start, Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined with two area mayors to putt it out for the coveted Mayor’s Cup. Mayor John Vieau of Chicopee beat out Mayor Sarno and Mayor William Sapelli of Agawam to take the Mayor's Cup back home to Chicopee.

“This event has been a long-time coming,” said Judy Matt, Spirit of Springfield President, of the tournament that was originally planned for June 2020 but had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandmeic.  “We are pleased to have the support of the business community and golfers, and to have the mayor’s take time from their busy schedules.”

The Spirit of Springfield Golf Classic is supported by American Medical Response, Gleason Johndrow Landscaping, MassLive,  Sheraton Springfield, Springfield Business Improvement District, The Republican, Western Mass Economic Development, Western Mass News, tee sponsors and other donors.  The Mayor’s Cup is sponsored by Bulkley, Richardson and Gelinas, LLP.

Funds raised at the tournament will be used to support the Spirit of Springfield’s mission to bring the community together in celebration with events that include the World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast, Star Spangled Springfield, Parade of the Big Balloons and Bright Nights at Forest Park.
