Mayor Sarno Encouraged to see Work Continue at Elm Street Project

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stopped by Court Square to view the status of the work that is continuing at the Elm Street Project.

The project will entail the complete restoration of the former Court Square Hotel building, with the property to be utilized as a mixed-use development, including new market rate and workforce housing apartments to address the housing shortage that exists in Springfield as well as ground floor retail.  In addition, the development will generate additional tax revenues and construction and permanent jobs.

Mayor Sarno states, “I am encouraged and pleased to see the work continue at this very important economic development project.  Even in the midst of working to mitigate the community spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus, my administration is committed to moving our city forward and dictating our future.  I cannot thank all of the stakeholders enough for remaining true and strong on this project.  From Governor Baker and his team, my City team, the SRA Board, Opal Winn Development, MGM Springfield, and MassMutual – we never gave up on this vital economic project!”
