Mayor Sarno to Aid City Councilors in Raising Funds for Black Lives Matter Street Painting Project

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno states in the spirit of unity and following up on City Councilor Tracye Whitfield’s initiative and Council President Justin Hurst’s request for funding assistance to create Springfield’s own Black Lives Matter Street painting project; that he will facilitate donations through the United Way of Pioneer Valley, such as was done in the City of Worcester.

Mayor Sarno stated, “I am very thankful that when I reached out to United Way Executive Director Paul Mina, he was more than happy to accommodate my request.  I would once again, ask our very generous philanthropic business community and private individuals to consider a donation to this worthy cause of unity, mutual respect and understanding.”

The project is currently being reviewed by DPW Director Chris Cignoli.

“No donation is too small or large.  I will start-off this campaign with a $500 donation.  All other donations can be directed to the United Way of Pioneer Valley, 1441 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01103.  C/O Executive Director Paul Mina,” Mayor Sarno added.  “More than ever, we must and will come together as one for the betterment of our beloved Springfield.”
