“As a member of Mayor’s Against LGBTQ Discrimination, I am heartened and pleased by our United States Supreme Court decisions that protect the civil rights of gay and transgender workers,” Mayor Sarno stated after the opinions were delivered today.
Mayor Sarno added, “Every member of our workforce – regardless of sexual or gender identification – should be treated fairly and equally in the workplace. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is meant to protect all members of our workforce from sex discrimination– regardless of how someone identifies sexually or chooses to express their gender. I hope that the Supreme Court’s decisions today to uphold these crucial protections for our LGBTQ+ community will serve to remind us that inclusivity is a constant goal, and something we must not take for granted.”
