The due date for the city’s trash fee has been pushed back to May 11, 2020, instead of the original date of April 10, 2020. The City will also delay the date in which motor vehicle excise demand fees are applied until May 11, 2020. Motor vehicle excise bills were due on March 9, 2020.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, Mayor Sarno and CAFO TJ Plante have also reached out to officials from the Department of Local Services in the Department of Revenue and Governor Baker about the possibility of extending payment deadlines on real estate taxes from May 1, 2020 to June 1, 2020.
Mayor Sarno states, “During these challenging and extraordinary times, my administration is committed to trying to provide any relief and assistance possible to our taxpayers while following local and state legal statutes to maintain our city services and operations. I have directed CAFO TJ Plante to extend the payment deadline for the trash fee and to delay the date in which late fees are applied for state excise tax.”
CAFO Plante stated, “In order to maintain city services, the city still must be able to collect statuary revenues due. In light of these extraordinary circumstances and at the direction of Mayor Sarno, the city will provide some relief for our residents by delaying the collection of these fees.”
City Councilor Orlando Ramos said, “I want to thank the mayor and his administration for acting in the best interest of our residents during this tough time. People everywhere are being financially impacted by COVID-19, and it only makes sense to for us as a municipality to give homeowners some relief. We will continue to work collaboratively, and make the necessary adjustments in order to help everyone get through this."
