Mayor Sarno Attends Topping-Off Ceremony for Brightwood-Lincoln School

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined with Superintendent of Schools Daniel Warwick, Director of the Department of Capital Asset Construction Peter Garvey, and Deputy Chief Executive Officer & Executive Director of the Massachusetts School Building Authority Jack McCarthy for a topping-off ceremony for the new Brightwood-Lincoln School, today.

Mayor Sarno stated, “The support the MSBA has provided for our City has never waned and once again they have come through in a meaningful and significant way that will be a huge benefit to our residents, especially to the students, families and staff at our new Brightwood-Lincoln School.  Our relationship with the MSBA has allowed us to put forward $616 million of new schools and renovated schools here in the City of Springfield — the most in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts”

Superintendent of Schools Daniel Warwick thanked Mayor Domenic Sarno and the entire School Committee for their commitment to constructing a new building to house Lincoln and Brightwood schools. “The current buildings actually dates back to the late 1800s. They are completely antiquated and outdated,” said Warwick. “I’m thrilled the project is moving along so nicely. It’s a great leap forward for the schools and it’s great for the community.”

Also in attendance at the ceremony today were city Councilors Orlando Ramos, Jesse Lederman, and Adam Gomez; School Committee members Maria Perez and Denise Hurst; Assistant Superintendent of Schools Lydia Martinez; Jose and Cynthia Escribano, principals at Gerena and Brightwood Elementary Schools; and Jose Claudio and Norman Roldan of the New North Citizens Council.
