Students from the Commonwealth Honors College at UMass Amherst unveiling artwork in City Hall

Students from the Commonwealth Honors College at UMass Amherst participated in an unveiling of their artwork in City Hall. They are the students of well-known Springfield Artist and creator of many of the murals seen downtown. His class is comprised of honors students from a variety of the university's majors (Isenberg business, science, mathematics, tourism, etc...).

The class is about the Springfield Renaissance and the role public art has played in changing perceptions of the city to outsiders. Students will be showcasing their art in an exhibit in the lobby of city hall for the next 5 months.

Additionally, each student prepared a speech about how Professor Simpson's course (which includes a series of field trips to the Museum/Library Quadrangle & a tour of the many newly created murals) helped change their perception of Springfield to a very positive one.
