Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood promoted Vincent Spagnolo and Arthur D’Ambrosia to the rank of Lieutenant effective Sunday (November 10th). On Wednesday, Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Commissioner Clapprood and members of the Springfield Police Department hosted a pinning ceremony for its two newest Lieutenants.
“These two men, whom I have known throughout their entire careers, will do the Springfield Police Department proud, they both take pride in their job and will not be afraid to accept responsibility in their new positions,” said Commissioner Clapprood.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated, “Congratulations to Lieutenants Vincent Spagnolo and Arthur D’Ambrosia and their families for continuing, as with all our men and women in blue, their dedication and brave efforts towards our own Springfield community – Godspeed to you all.”
Commissioner Clapprood has assigned both Lieutenants to 12am-8am shift under the direction of watch commander Captain David Kane.
Lt. Spagnolo graduated from Technical High School in Springfield and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Curry College. Lt. Spagnolo became a Springfield Police Cadet and was sworn in as a Springfield Police Officer in 1992. Both he and Lt. D’Ambrosia spent several years in the Traffic Unit together and were both promoted to Sergeant in May 2014.
Lt. D’Ambrosia has served the city of Springfield for 32 years and is a graduate of Cathedral High School. He obtained his Masters’ Degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Westfield State. Lt D’Ambrosia has received four commendations from the Springfield Police Department including arresting an attempted child abduction suspect in Indian Orchard in 2003. Lt. D’Ambrosia was most recently a Supervisor in the Detective Bureau in charge of the Property Crimes Division under the direction of Captain Trent Duda.
Springfield Police Detective Brian Coleman pinned Lt. D’Ambrosia, they were classmates together in the Police Academy. Lt. Spagnolo was pinned by his son Nicholas.
