Residents Asked to Clear Catch Basins of Debris for Upcoming Storm

Based upon forecasts provided by the National Weather Service, the City of Springfield may be receiving between 1 ½ to 2 ½  inches of rain from late in the day on Wednesday, October 30 through the morning of Friday, November 1.  This volume of rain, coupled with falling leaves, will result in catch basin / drainage structure tops becoming clogged that will result in localized flooding along the roadway, and potentially impacting adjacent properties.

With over 23,000 catch basins in the City of Springfield, we are asking for residents to keep the basin tops near their properties cleared of debris to minimize the potential flooding.  With kids out Thursday evening celebrating Halloween, keeping the catch basin tops clean will make their evening much safer.
