Commissioner Clapprood Announces the Promotion of Captain David Kane

Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood promoted David Kane to the rank of Captain effective Sunday (October 20th).  On Tuesday, Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Commissioner Clapprood and members of the Springfield Police Department hosted a pinning ceremony for Captain Kane.  

“Captain Kane showed great leadership as a watch commander and works incredibly well with our younger officers.  His patience and ability to constructively teach are skills that are needed and will be utilized on his new shift,” said Commissioner Clapprood.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated, “Congratulations to Captain Kane and his family too for continuing, as with all our 'men and women in blue', their dedication and brave efforts towards our own Springfield community – Godspeed to you all."

Captain Kane has served the City of Springfield for 22 years as a Police Officer, first as a patrol officer, then as a DARE Officer. This ultimately led to his position as a Sergeant in the Student Support Unit from 2008-2015.  Captain Kane was promoted to Lieutenant in October 2015 and helped oversee the Uniform Division and Metro Unit for the past four years. 

Captain Kane is also a talented bagpiper who performs at various city and Police Department functions, as well as for the Springfield Police Department’s Honor Guard.  

Captain Kane has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Western New England College. He was pinned by his wife, Amy.
