Mayor Sarno Joins American Medical Response to Launch Earn While You Learn Initiative

Program will stimulate Springfield economy while offering trainees a cost-free way to launch a career in EMS

American Medical Response (AMR) and Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno today kicked off the “Earn While You Learn” initiative, which allows for trainees to be full-time employees while taking the necessary certification courses to become emergency medical technicians (EMTs).

“We are excited to partner with Mayor Sarno and the City of Springfield to offer residents the opportunity to serve their community without worrying about taking time off without pay,” said Charles Babson III, VP of New England Operations at AMR. “We are excited to offer a way to make a career in EMS more accessible. This program alleviates the income barrier and will allow for more Springfield residents to launch a new, rewarding career.”

Since launching the “Earn While You Learn Program” in Buffalo last May, AMR has graduated over 100 EMS professionals. With support from Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, the initiative will spur economic growth while making a career in emergency medical services more accessible, ensuring that a candidate would be financially stable while training.

Mayor Sarno states, “First of all, my thanks to AMR for their continued belief and investment here in Springfield. This is what my Administration is all about – public and private partnerships in investments and job creation initiatives to enhance the lives of our Springfield residents.”

The first EMS class will begin on October 7th, 2019. The application can be found here. For more information about becoming an EMT, please email wmalearn@amr.net
