Springfield Police Department Received Ten Proposals for Body Worn Camera Project

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Acting Police Commissioner announce that the Springfield Police Department has received ten proposals for its Body-Worn Camera Project.  The request for proposals ended at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday and the Office of Procurement unsealed the bids.  A review committee has already begun going through the proposals.

The Springfield Police Department’s Command Staff along with representative from the Supervisor’s Association and Patrolman’s Union serve on the review committee.  Winbourne Consulting continues to be involved to help guide our committee through the process.  It will take approximately a month to evaluate the bids and select a vendor.

Mayor Sarno stated, “This initiative is something that I and Acting Commissioner Clapprood have steadfastly believed in. With all our proactive public safety programs, this will only continue to enhance mutual respect and trust with all of our Springfield community.”

“We are delightfully surprised by the number of responses we received.  It gives our review committee more option than we anticipated and we are eager to begin testing some of the equipment,” said Acting Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood.

The review and demonstration process will take approximately 3-4 weeks before any decisions are made.  The goal is to outfit officers with Body Cameras by the end of the year, if not sooner.
