Mayor Domenic J. Sarno announces that the Springfield Police Department has completed its Body Worn Camera Feasibility Study and an RFP for Body Worn Cameras, including state of the art recording and storage capabilities, will be available for bidders on Wednesday, July 17th. These Body Worn Cameras will be assigned to approximately 500 sworn police personnel.
Mayor Sarno stated, “This initiative is something that I and Acting Commissioner Clapprood have steadfastly believed in. With all our proactive public safety programs, this will only continue to enhance mutual respect and trust with all of our Springfield community. My administration, through our Chief Administrative and Financial Officer TJ Plante, has made this a funding priority.”
Acting Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood said, “We continue to move forward with our Body Worn Camera System project. This is an important next step and with Mayor Sarno's support we are getting closer to our ultimate goal of launching this project to protect our women and men in blue and increase our transparency with our residents.”
Criteria for proposals include:
- Any proposals must be from a "proposer" who has been in operation a minimum of three years.
- "Proposer" must have successfully implemented a Body worn camera system of more than 100 devices to a law enforcement agency.
- "Proposer" shall have successfully installed a body worn camera system in more than ten agencies.
- Will meet all national public safety industry standards and guidelines.
