The Springfield Police Department unveiled new graphics on one of its K9 Unit Cruisers Tuesday afternoon at a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Acting Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood and Go Graphix President Jim White.
Acting Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood stated, “Our K9 Unit does so much with the public and the community that these new graphics will help enhance their image across the city and be a hit with children at community events.”
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno states, “We have a very generous business community. I am so thankful and appreciative of Mr. Larry Derose’s outreach and Go Graphix President Jim White’s efforts on this K9 cruiser initiative.”
Go Graphix has been working with the Springfield Police Department for the past 8 years on their cruiser graphics and donated this new cruiser wrap.
Go Graphix President Jim White’s Grandfather Walter White was a Springfield Police Officer and says this design has special significance to him. “It’s been an honor and a pleasure for us here at Go Graphix to work with the fine men and women of the Springfield Police Department for the past 8 years on their cruiser graphics. It’s my hope that the new look of this K9 cruiser resonates with the community, captures the spirit of the city and helps us all to think about the courageous, selfless efforts our Police officers make on a daily basis for us,” said White.
Lifelong Springfield resident Larry Derose helped to coordinate these efforts to outfit a K9 Cruiser with new graphics. “This occasion is to recognize and honor the great community service provided by the members of the Springfield Police Department,” said DeRose.
The K9 Unit provides trained K9 Teams to assist in the prevention and detection of crime, the tracking of missing persons and persons sought by the police, the search for evidence, of buildings, and outdoor areas, as well as the detection of narcotics and firearms.
There are currently eight K9 Units in the Springfield Police Department, with an additional two K9’s who are expected to complete K9 Training School this summer, bringing the total number of K9 Units to ten.
The K9 Units also participate in many community events and provide K9 demonstrations.
