Mayor Sarno: Police Supervisors Being Unreasonable to our Taxpayers on Contract Negotiations

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno states, “My administration has been very supportive of our ‘men and women in blue’. We have put a very fair and reasonable contract offer on the table for both our Police Supervisors and our taxpayers. Unfortunately, due to their unsustainable financial demands and in respect to our taxpayers, we will now have to go to arbitration. One only needs to look recently at the City of Methuen police contract situation or a look back to 2003, when our City had massive layoffs to our Police and Fire Departments. My administration has prided itself on strong fiscal management and never having to lay off any sworn police officers or firefighters; we’ve actually added to our ranks through continued academies. This is one of the last City contracts not to be settled. I remain ever hopeful that this can be resolved fairly for our taxpayers as we continue to move our Springfield forward.”
