The Massachusetts DOT has informed the City of Springfield that repairs to the St. James Avenue Bridge will begin on Wednesday, October 24, 2018. Due to the extent of the repairs, it is expected that the repairs will take 3-4 weeks to complete. During that time, St. James Avenue northbound over the CSX Rail Line and over Route 291 will remain closed. St. James Avenue southbound will remain open.
The City of Springfield will be monitoring the traffic in the area and will be working with MassDOT on the need for any additional traffic notices once the work begins.
It is recommended that drivers avoid the area if possible during the next 3-4 weeks.
