Nancy Lieberman Charities in partnership with Sport Court has teamed with the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Springfield Police Department and the City of Springfield to open a Dream Court at Adams Park. During the ceremony, Chief of Staff Denise Jordan represented Mayor Domenic J. Sarno.
“I am excited to be able to partner with the City of Springfield and the Basketball Hall of Fame as well as local law enforcement. We are honored to team up in the Springfield community and give our kids a beautiful play space to compete, make friends and be in a healthy environment,” said Nancy Lieberman, Basketball Hall Of Famer, Two Time Olympian and now a Head Coach in the BIG3 Men’s Basketball League.
“While Nancy Lieberman is often recognized for trailblazing the game of basketball as a player and coach, she’s also an extraordinary humanitarian. Her ‘Dream Courts’ program has made a tremendous impact in communalities across the country and we are greatly appreciative of her generous donation to the city we call home. As an endeared member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, we couldn’t be more proud of Nancy and her charitable endeavors,” said John Doleva, President of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
“Sport Court is proud to partner with Nancy Lieberman Charities and, as part of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Enshrinement Weekend, provide the Dream Court playing surface that will give youth in Springfield, MA area a new place to recreate and play the game of basketball in their own community,” said Lauren Gillian, Director of Social Responsibility/Community Relations, Gerflor USA.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated, “So very appreciative of Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman’s generous and continued dedicated community efforts. Nancy and I firmly believe that sports and the teamwork it brings is a major positive factor in bringing us all together as one in a mutually respectful way.”
Over two million youth play on Dream Courts in the U.S. and Sport Court has been the partner to Nancy Lieberman Charities since the first court installation in 2010. A total of 64 Dream Courts™ have been built to-date across the nation with each court serving approximately 120 youth per day, helping improve the lives of over 2.7 million kids a year.
A dedication ceremony was held on Wednesday, September 5th at Adams Park, located at Wilbraham Rd. Following the ribbon cutting, children participated in an open-court “shoot around” with Nancy Lieberman and the Springfield Police Department.
