Friday, June 1, 2018

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno has been notified by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) that the city’s financial reporting team led by City Comptroller Patrick Burns and Chief Administrative and Financial Officer (CAFO) Timothy J. Plante has been awarded the GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 2017 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). This is the seventh consecutive year that the City of Springfield has received the accolade.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

According to the GFOA, the city’s 2017 CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate the city’s financial story.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated, “I extend my appreciation to CAFO TJ Plante, Comptroller Patrick Burns and the entire finance team for their ongoing hard work and dedication to my administration’s continued commitment to fiscal excellence, transparency and accountability. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.”

City Comptroller Patrick Burns stated, “The city has seen a remarkable turnaround in its financial management under the Sarno administration. I am proud of the hardworking team we have here in the Comptroller’s office who work hard to make sure the city’s finances are strong.”

CAFO T.J. Plante stated, “The city continues to strive for financial excellence and this award validates that we are continuing to do the right things to achieve this goal.”
