Department of Elder Affairs and PVTA Partner to Offer Transportation to Seniors

Friday, January 12, 2018

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno announced today that  the Department of Elder Affairs has partnered with PVTA for a transportation program for all City of Springfield seniors ages 55 and older.

“Our team has worked very hard with the PVTA in order to provide this transportation opportunity for our seniors so they can get to the new Raymond A. Jordan Senior Center,” states Mayor Sarno. “The transportation piece is a critical one, and we are pleased to be able to transport our seniors right to the front door.”

Any senior who is a city resident can register to get a PVTA photo ID.  The Department of Elder Affairs is taking reservations for interested seniors so they can get their IDs and take advantage of the low fares involved. On Wednesday, January 17, 2018, seniors throughout the city will be travelling to the beautifully renovated Union Station, where they will receive mobility training, have their photos taken and take a tour of the new facility.  Brandy Pelletier, PVTA Public Relations Specialist said, “Mobility training enhances freedom, mobility and independence for seniors. We are excited to partner with the City of Springfield’s Elder Affairs Department to assist seniors in learning how to safely navigate through the public bus transportation system.”

Sandy Federico, Director of Elder Affairs added, “We are so looking forward to opening the doors to our community seniors, and are thrilled to put this transportation package together so the dream becomes a reality.  Our goal is to work tirelessly toward the betterment of the lives of our seniors, and to provide every possible service to them to make that happen.”

For further information and to reserve a space, please call the Department of Elder Affairs at (413) 750-2896. Registrations are now being taken.
