Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and the Bilingual Veterans’ Outreach Center held this years’ Puerto Rican flag raising ceremony on the City Hall steps this morning. Mayor Sarno presented a proclamation declaring the month of November as Puerto Rican Heritage Month in the City of Springfield.
“This flag raising marks the 28th anniversary celebration of Puerto Rican Heritage Month in our city. I wish to recognize the positive impact that the Puerto Rican community has had upon the social, cultural, economic development and in their military service to our country on behalf of our city,” said Mayor Sarno. “Especially poignant with this year’s flag raising is our thoughts, prayers and continued outreach to aid Puerto Rico in their time of need after the devastating hurricanes.”
