Friday, September 22, 2017

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, along with Superintendent of Schools Daniel Warwick, Health & Human Services Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris, Executive Director of Parks, Recreation and Building Management Patrick Sullivan and Chief of Staff Denise R. Jordan, are joining State Representative Carlos Gonzalez and Western Mass United for Puerto Rico (WMUPR) to announce that the City of Springfield is accepting donations to assist the families affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. The EF4 hurricane has left the island devastated and ravaged. Mayor Sarno urges residents to come together to provide any measure of assistance.

Mayor Sarno said, “Having witnessed and managed three natural disasters right here in Springfield, I know firsthand the devastation the island of Puerto Rico is living through. The pictures and news stories tell the story and it is unimaginable. My heart goes out to the people of Puerto Rico, and to our local families who are desperate to communicate with their loved ones who are now isolated from day to day communication with the United States. I have directed the aforementioned cabinet members to coordinate accepting donations listed at specific drop off points in the city. We will work with WMUPR to get these items to Puerto Rico at the earliest possible time.”
