Revitalize CDC and Blue Cross Blue Shield Renovate Home of U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Lonnie Chappell

Wednesday, September 20, 2017

Revitalize CDC President & CEO Colleen Loveless and Associate Director Ethel Griffin and employees from Blue Cross Blue Shield joined at the home of Springfield residents Lonnie and Mary Chappell to help with housework and much needed renovations. Lonnie is a retired Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. Lonnie is unable to take care of himself and get around the house due to his medical condition. Mary left her job to be of assistance to Lonnie full time and have been unable to complete repairs to their home. Mayor Sarno and State Representative Jose Tosado, a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, were happy to be with the Chappells as the small army of workers painted their kitchen, installed a flag pole with a brand new American Flag, modified the bathroom for wheelchair accessibility, landscaped, and surprised the couple with a new dishwasher and microwave for their kitchen. At a later date, a new roof will be added, along with a new heating system.
